I’ll try to make this quick.
These past couple of weeks the Lord has consumed me. It’s like I’ve been taking a bath in his love, his word, his hope. Surrounded by this amazing body of Christ, I’ve come to realize a few things about our body.
Reading Members of One Another has really shown me that the way we do Body life is Biblical straight up, yet most people act like they’ve never seen anything like it… because they haven’t. Because no one else (as far as I’ve seen) in the world does body life like we do, to the extent that we are all members of one another.
And I realized as I was speaking with a friend trying to describe the type of people the Lord uses, just how much he’s changed every last member. Especially of Identity Project, a student run ministry teeming with pagan christians. The most beautiful kind. Reading 2 Corinthians 5 illustrates the Body of Christ in it’s openness, it’s compassion, and it’s christ-like forgiveness:
“If it seems that we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. Whatever we do it us because Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe Christ died for everyone, we also believe that we have all died to the old life we used to live. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live to please themselves. Instead, they will live to please Christ, who died and was raised for them.
So we have stopped evaluating others by what the world thinks about them. Once I mistakenly thought of Christ that way, as though he were merely a human being. How differently I think about him now! What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!
All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to him.” 2 Corinthians 5:13-18
What I’m trying to say is that: as I read this, I couldn’t believe how dead on this was. It’s Xenos. We are fucking crazy. We are on fire, crazy for God’s love! We don’t judge people on who they were. We let every one in. We have been changed into new creatures. And it’s all because of God. And he’s given us this mission, so dammit, we’re going to do it!
I guess it’s motivating & encouraging to see that we are sticking to the truth in the way we do things. This verse doesn’t even touch on how we are deeply relational and involved in each other, but it does paint a good picture of one aspect of our body. I hope, I pray, we never lose that.
