Thanks again for your insight and encouragement, Dar. I have a feeling I will reread these blogs many times whenever I become a parent! Thanks for pointing out how identity is crucial to parenting. I have experienced the important of taking my identity from Christ in my life as a single person and a wife, and it is so life-changing! It seems that parenting will challenge my identity the most because hidden values will rise to the surface. For example I think I'll have a hard time if my kids don't do well in school, because I always took my identity from that. Luckily the Body will be there to tell me to "be cool."

I am so am so glad you bring up this issue! When Sam was in jr. high we memorized some identity verses together and the ripple effect of that has been HUGE! It has helped deepen our relationship in that we can discuss our sin issues freely( teens are very quick to point out our flaws, aren't they? ) but then can always come back to God's gracious view of us. More importantly though, is to be able to use these verses to fight the endless barrage of lies these kids hear all day at school. I am amazed at all the "elements of this world" screaming for my daughter's attention! Looking forward to the next installment!

Identity is huge in the way we raise kids. Especially significant is the "identity" foisted upon them by schools: usually success in sports. You've opened a whole different dimension (and a deeper one) in this article, Dar.

Well said Dar! It is overwhelming with all of the books out there and all of the different suggestions that they give. Some are good but sometimes I think "do these writers have kids?" I know your boys well and like the others say, you can tell that they truly love the Lord. I have a feeling that it will be a fight where my daughter is concerned so I look forward to more of your writings to help us with my battle with the world where she is concerned.

Thanks for your time and info. I look so forward to reading what you are thinking and learning from YOUR experiences. I look at your children and see how much the love the Lord and think that is what I hope and pray for our kids.
